My blog’s sub-title is “It Seems So Simple”. A good friend gave me feedback that I needed a snappier title. Maybe, but let me explain why I’ve chosen this title.

As systems get more complex, one way to simplify them is to break the problem down into smaller pieces. A common approach is to use micro-services. Rather than having one or two larger components that expose a large number of endpoints, you would have many smaller services that expose a smaller number of endpoints. There are a number of advantages to this approach, such as the ability to scale components independently, and being able to quickly react to problems in the components.

I drink coffee every day, several times. Sometimes, more than several. Sometimes, so much that I wind up at an urgent care facility in the Virginian mountains due to my heart freaking out due to out of control caffeination futzing up the electronic signals used to control the beat. But that’s another story.

New Year’s Eve 2012 (or is it New Year’s Eve 2013?). We have a tradition of getting together with good friends for a quiet evening of good food, good drink, and perhaps some games, of the board or electronic variety. It’s something we’ve been doing for nearly 20 years, and I look forward to it tremendously.

It’s almost a cliche to start this way.
